History of Eugenics

Dr. Nicole Nelson

This event has passed.

Wisconsin Historical Society 816 State Street, Madison, WI 53706

A dimly lit, vintage-style kitchen scene with a hazy, dreamlike atmosphere. Several women in white dresses and aprons are gathered around sinks and counters, preparing food or washing dishes. Two small blonde girls in matching light dresses stand beside the women, one holding onto a woman’s skirt. Soft light filters through fogged windows in the background, giving the image an ethereal, almost ghostly quality.

Join CHASM On October 20th, from 5:30-7:00pm at the Wisconsin Historical Society for an evening of education on the history of eugenics in Wisconsin.

The event will include a short didactic session on American eugenics by Professor Nicole C. Nelson, a viewing of documents from the archives of the state facilities which performed eugenics sterilizations, and a facilitated discussion on how to learn from this history to provide more compassionate patient care.

Event open to SMPH Faculty, Staff, and Students.
